Before
the Donaire vs Rigondeaux fight, the three undercard bout was very exciting in
which all 3 bouts ended via KO/TKO in the first round.
I was so excited because
it gave me good vibes that the main event would be as exciting and might even
exceed the thrill that the boxers showed before the main event.
Coming
into the fight, Rigondeaux had a record of 11 fights: 11 wins: 8KO: 0 Lose
while Donaire was unbeaten for more than a decade and was just named boxer of
the year of 2012. With that being said, it made the fight very intriguing to
watch most especially because of the record that both fighters had.
As the
fight began, I was so excited to watch these two athletes box. But I was
shocked to see how Donaire fought this one. He was just aiming for head shots
and powerful swings. His moves are easily read by the Cuban boxer. While Rigondeaux
used his footwork to circle around the ring and duck most of “The Filipino Flash’s”
punches. Overall, the match was not what the majority of the people were
looking for in a boxing fight. But, Rigondeaux really boxed very intelligently,
he was able to hit and not get hit. As a result, the Cuban fighter successfully
defended his WBA title and won the WBO super bantamweight belt.
